The Common Grocer at Common Unity Project Aotearoa is a community bulk food store in Epuni, Lower Hutt. Based at the ReMakery, the co-op store is run by the local community.

Becoming a member gives you access to bulk foods and household items plastic free. As well as food, the store sells shampoo bars and natural plastic-free deodorant. Zero-waste cleaning staples like baking soda and vinegar are also available. Purchases can be taken home in reusable bags or beeswax wraps. Awesome cooking and DIY workshops are available to members that use items found in the store.

There are three annual membership options:

  • Pay $1 each time you visit and volunteer at the store for two hours per month
  • Pay $52 yearly and spend one hour per month volunteering
  •  Pay $100 yearly with no volunteering needed

The ReMakery is also home to Unity Kitchen, which turns home grown produce into nutritious meals. The Sew Good Cooperative also operates on the grounds, giving aged fabrics a new life while teaching sewing to volunteers.

Shopping at the Common Grocer supports the local community and helps to reduce waste. Visit the ReMakery at 310 Waiwhetu Road, Fairfield, Lower Hutt to see how it could support your zero-waste journey.
